Senior Building Surveyor


MSC is a professional customer focused property, environmental & construction consultancy located in Oxfordshire. Core disciplines include, Architectural Design, Asbestos Consultancy, Asset Maintenance Management, Building Services Engineering, Building Surveying, Conservation, Health & Safety (CDM), Project Management and Property Consultancy.


We are looking for a qualified, client focused, Surveyor with the relevant experience to be able to work with the minimum of supervision in their specialist areas. The successful candidate will be motivated and aspire to become an Associate of the firm by way of future job opportunities and progression. The successful candidate whilst based at the head office would be expected to work from home some of the time and must be capable of being independent as well as a team player.


Main Duties 
-Provide advice on the design, technical support, construction, maintenance, repair and refurbishment of all types of residential and commercial property

-Defect diagnosis of both modern and period property
-Carry out building and measured surveys 
-Ensure buildings conform to the latest building regulations and technical standards 
-Collating particulars on site, writing specifications, obtaining tenders, planning works programmes and administering building contracts for residential and commercial projects 
-Analyse and report on building defects 
-Provide a practical and methodical approach to problem solving
-Prepare schedules of condition
-Provide advice in connection with planning applications, appeals, government grant 
-Supervision of building work on site

-Design adaptations and improvements for the elderly, less able and wheelchair housing

-Preparation of design and construction documents and drawings

Our Building Surveyors are expected to manage their own programmes of work with guidance from directors or senior members of staff; they must be able to undertake architectural design; specification writing; contract administration; certification; liaison as required with a larger design team.  Experience of managing contracts from concept to completion is an essential requirement, with experience of CAD an advantage.  Building surveyors are also expected to have knowledge of, stock condition/building surveys; Equality Act; Party Walls and possess a good knowledge of the range of professional building surveying skills

Skills Required
-Ideally AssocRICS/MRICS Chartered

-Proficient CAD operator 
-Customer focused 
-Architectural background an advantage 
-Private sector experience

-Clean driving license and use of own vehicle
